Hex Week

What a week it was!
Shawn Wayment, aka "BirddogDoc" flew in from Colorado and his friend Brandon Racette drove from State College, PA. to experience "Hex Week" on the Ausable. We had been planning the week for nearly a year and luckily the stars aligned and conditions were perfect.
We waded the North Branch, joined good buddy Jim Shiflett to wade the South Branch and float the Main Stream. We caught brook, rainbow and brown trout with the prize going to Shawn for catching (and releasing a 24 1/2 brown trout on a hex dun well after midnight.
One night Kit Foster drove over from Charlevoix to meet Shawn and Brandon. Shawn and Kit share a deep affection for cover dog bred setters and had lots to share.

It was truly a wonderful week of comradarie and one we'll all remember for a long time. More later............................

Dale...

I love the Au Sable and all the great fly fishing history. Thanks so much for sharing it with Brandon and I. Trip of a life time, and I can't wait to hit those awesome grouse and woodcock covers!

Dale, looks like Shawn hit the jackpot with that terrific brown. Approaching steelhead size.

Love the photos, and it's nice to see a river that is behaving properly. Many of ours are still blown out.

Happy 4th!
