Recently a friend called to ask me about the National Amateur Grouse Championship and how it got started.
That conversation brought back lots of good memories
My good friend Jack Nicholson and I worked hard to get it established and sanctioned by the AFTCA and now it's about to run again for the 34th time.
I've saved most of the pertinent files from the beginning of the trial and ran across the picture above. It was taken October 13, 1978 and is Dr. Holly Gray, President and Miss Leslie Anderson, Secretary of the Amateur Field Trial Clubs of America presenting the national championship trophy to Jim Steitler owner and handler of CH. Pleasant Valley Clyde.

Darn ole friend hard to believe it was 34 years ago. Brings back a lot of memories. I am getting ready to return to Africa for my 3rd Safari but nothing beats being in the Northern Woods with a good dog out front.
